. . . . as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the
wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
There is one interpretation to this verse, unless we think that the church is subject unto Christ in spiritual things only, because then wives would be subject to their husbands also in spiritual things only. But our Lord Jesus Christ would not be happy with a bride (his church) who follows Him only in spiritual matters. He wants us to be devoted to Him in "every thing", and if we agree with that, wives are subject to their husbands also in "every thing" (not just spiritual matters).
Should husbands then lord it over with their own wife? Nowadays women are quite knowledgeable, and often very disciplined in their behavior with a responsible attitude, therefore they should have much freedom in everyday decision making. But if there is a dispute that cannot be settled, the wife would have to give in, as she is subject to her husband in everything. A loving christian wife would not have any problem with that.
