"For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God Himself that formed the earth and made it. He created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited; I am the Lord and there is none else." -- Isa.45:18.
Man cannot thwart the purposes of God, or otherwise he would be His superior. He might seem to be doing this for awhile, but in the end God's ways win and His eternal purposes prevail.
So the earth was created to be inhabited, by noble beings made in "the image and likeness of God," and they were expected to obey and worship Him. Man sinned, the curse came, and then God in His love and mercy, "not willing that any should perish," -- since "the wages of sin is death," presented the "Plan of Salvation," whereby Christ, "who knew no sin," was to suffer the penalty for every man's violation of the law, that man through faith in His sacrifice, might escape death, and have eternal life, -- and with the earth restored to its original beauty. "The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." -- Luke 19:10.
A Plan To Save Man and the Earth
God, in consultation with Jesus Christ, said, -- "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." -- Gen.1:26. Thus man was to have dominion over all.
Satan brought about a change in the earthly arrangement. When the cry of sin reached heaven, the great heart of Jesus was moved to pity, and the plan was made whereby the effects of sin upon man and the earth, might be removed through faith in Christ's blood which was to be shed on Calvary's cross, and all things be restored to their original condition.
"As in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive." John, in prophetic vision, said, -- "I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away." -- Rev.21:1.
The cracking up of the earth's crust by the flood of Noah's day, upheavals of volcanoes and earthquakes, have greatly changed the face of the earth. "The earth has waxed old as a garment," and things have been changed.
The Creator of all has promised a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness. "But now, thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, fear not for I have redeemed thee." -- Isa.43 :1.
As the ages have passed, the effects of the curse upon the earth have become more and more visible, and Inspiration in noticing this declares, -- "And thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundations of the earth; and the heavens are the work of Thy hands. They shall perish, but Thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; and as a vesture shalt Thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but Thou art the same and Thy years shall not fail." -- Heb. 1:70-12.
Through the Divine plan that has been made, if the conditions therein are complied with, man may be redeemed from the effects of sin, be made righteous, -- and the earth also will be restored to its original pristine beauty.
